Causeway Cost Dog Rescue will be holding an animal welfare conference at Stormont on 25th October 2023, in response to the recent crisis animal welfare charities have been experiencing in Northern Ireland. The conference is to support all dog rescue charities and will be reviewing current information on animal welfare. This is an opportunity to enable the charities to share experiences and gain expertise from those travelling from throughout the UK and Ireland, which include Battersea Dog and Cats Home and the Kennel Club London.
“How do we improve the health and well being of our dogs? Is the title for the event as representatives will also be participating from the south of Ireland, including members from Irish government as we are all experiencing the same issues and concerns”, says Margaret Dimsdale-Bobby Chair of the Charity.
“Its is planned that this will be first in a series of conferences for charities, but unfortunately representatives from DAERA and the 11 councils chief executives have refused to speak and provide an update on enforcement and the delivery of the services. This is extremely disappointing, however we will have MLAs attending from each of the political parties including independents, one of which will be Claire Sugden MLA who will be opening the conference on our behalf.
“The conference is to support all dog rescue and rehoming charities, to come together and share experiences but to gain future knowledge from experts in their field, which include Academics from Liverpool and Queens University.”
Topics to be discussed will include the recent Sentient Being Bill passed by Westminster and the proposed ban of the XLBully dog. The event has been kindly funded by Pets Foundation, which is the charitable foundation set up by Pets at Home national store.
Chair continued, “I am extremely grateful to those who are flying in from Great Britain and travelling from all over the Island of Ireland to support this event and learn from others as there is a keen appetite for knowledge. This is the start of our journey to addressing how we can improve the health and well being of dogs in our country and I look forward to welcoming everyone next week.”
