Causeway Coast Dog Rescue has been continually calling for a ‘Strategy for Animal Welfare’ in Northern Ireland, to be included in the forthcoming ‘Programme for Government’ (PfG) which the Executive announced today is being drafted and will be out for consultation.
Chairman, Margaret Dimsdale-Bobby states… This is crucial if we are spending public money on animal welfare services: ensuring value for money, but ultimately protecting our communities; and ensuring Animal Welfare Reform.
To all our communities, Please consider this as the PfG document goes for consultation, #NorthernIreland needs a multidiscplinary approach to delivering a collaborative service. Charities are receiving an unprescidented amount of dogs for surrender, which need to be vet checked, microchipped, licenced, neutered, vaccinated and promoted to ultimately home check an appropriate location to ensure each dog receives the home which meets their needs.
Costs are increasing, and necessary income does not match the outgoings. This is particularly evident in government, resulting in services not being ‘fit for purpose’. We must have a strategy to ensure our Executive delivers the service which meets our needs, and our companion animals’ needs.
Areas for discussion, and Reform in Companion Animal Welfare are to include: #breeding #licencing #microchipping #dogwarden services #animalwelfare services #legislation #policy #sentencing #investigation #enforcement #prosecutions #accountabilty #transparency #governance
